Cannabis and Pain Management

Legal vs Illegal Drugs

Opioid medications are for pain. Cancer patients are commonly in a lot of pain. Opioid medications are highly addictive and killed over 34,000 people in 2016. Cannabis and pain management studies have been done showing that weed is great to help manage pain. Which do you think is worse? Think people should go to jail for using a completely natural substance to manage their health issues without pharmaceuticals? The pharmaceutical lobby is the largest in Washington, with 1300 lobbyists for Congress. That is 2.4 drug lobbyists for EACH member of Congress. Until Monsanto gets a patent on their GMO Marijuana, you can expect for it to remain illegal federally.

Cannabis and Pain

The US Health and Human Services Secretary doesn’t believe Medical Marijuana exists. I’m going to create my own reality and not believe in him because he doesn’t know how to read. Last month, the European Journal of Internal Medicine, published a study that followed almost 3000 cancer patients between 2015 and 2017 as they started a medical marijuana treatment program for chronic pain. Patients reported how much pain they were in in the beginning, and then again after the cannabis treatment was underway. 95.9 percent of the patients experienced a dramatic reduction in pain. 52.9 percent of patients rated their pain between 8 and 10 (on a scale of 10) in the beginning of the study. After six months of treatment with cannabis, the number reporting level 8 pain or higher dropped to 4.6 percent. States with legalized medical marijuana also had a 25% lower death rate from pain killer overdoses.

Those are great numbers! But doesn’t smoking cause cancer? There aren’t many good studies showing a link between smoking marijuana and lung cancer: According to a big study done by the Journal of the American Medical Association: “observational studies of subjects with marijuana exposure failed to demonstrate significant associations between marijuana smoking and lung cancer after adjusting for tobacco use.” But that doesn’t mean that inhaling smoke is good for you.

Antioxidants help neutralize things that cause cancer.

Dr. Wilde loves to smoke weed (for her health, of course). She developed Pipe Potions to smooth smoke, in an effort to make it less irritating to the lungs. She added different essential oils with well researched health benefits to create her “flavors with benefits“. Try some today and #SmokeSmart!
